About This Project
From Scopetta to Balmuccia. In this section, the Sesia carves its way through impressive granite cliffs, where the granite riverbed is only a few metres wide forcing the river into a whitewater frenzy.
In this gorge, a renowned natural beauty spot, the current forms extraordinary water features which are enhanced by the sunlight filtering down into the ravine.
This run is shorter than the Classic descent and is carried out when water levels fall too low in the classic section. In fact, on the Sesia, when the water is deep enough to run the Classic section, the Gorge becomes unrunnable due to its conformation.
Put-in is situated near an ancient Roman bridge. During the run two portages are foreseen (necessary to circumvent unrunnable or dangerous rapids – getting out of the river, walking downstream and getting back in after the rapid), one of which, about halfway down the run, is extremely eye-catching, where the whole river hurtles through a rock tunnel, less than 2 metres wide and then spouts out as a waterfall.
During the descent, we pause in a small pool to allow participants to leap off a natural rock trampoline.
A Guide will accompany you during the run and steer the raft, ensuring a thrilling yet safe descent.
This descent is suitable for all levels, both for those with previous rafting experience and those who are new-comers to the sport.
This activity is carried out during the whole week, from Monday to Sunday.
From August to September (activity start-up and closure may be influenced by levels of seasonal river depths).
This is a group activity, formed by a minimum of 4 people.
Approximately 3 and a half hours, including travel from and to the basecamp, kitting-up and paddling and river safety briefing. Times may vary on the basis of the number of rafts on the river, the ability of the participants, river depths and weather conditions.
