The Sesia Valley, more specifically the Upper and Intermediate sections can easily be defined as one of the few remaining Italian valleys still retaining a natural environment. Just as for winter sports, especially off-piste skiing, for summer sports linked to the river, we can state that this is a true paradise.
Here, nature still plays a leading role.
It winds along the course of the Sesia River up to the slopes of the Monte Rosa peak, whose glaciers feed the Sesia River. Here the road ends and connections to the neighbouring Val d’Aosta and Switzerland, including Macugnaga in the Anzasca Valley, are only on foot using the Alpine trails or using the ski lift systems.
On Monte Rosa, together with other renowned Alpine refuges, the highest mountain refuge of Europe can be found: the Capanna Regina Margherita. Its construction started in 1889 by initiative of the Italian Alpine Club and it was inaugurated on the 18th of August 1893 by Queen Margherita.
During spring and summer, numerous outdoor sports activities can be done: Kayak, Rafting, Hydrospeed, Canyoning, Inflatable Canoe, MTB, Trial, Horse riding, Rock climbing, Hang-gliding and Hiking. All in a relaxing and unspoilt natural environment.
